Fall Composition

Shadows grow longer. The light is dense and saturated. Muted tones in the landscape hit deep notes beyond my frequency, but somehow resonate. It’s fall.

I love walking through the woods in this time of the year. Ok, when do I not? But I particularly appreciate the rich colors – greys, browns, tans and golds – of the leaves, bark, stone. Everywhere there are inspiring compositions – compositions I think about when drawing, designing, painting and making installations. Out in the world, plant structure, rock and other materials appear so effortlessly intertwined.  I love to study those relationships, so that when I make something, I have a language of attachments, overlays and layers to draw from.
