Personal Statement

I know that the result will be a reflection of authenticity true to the eco-region, the culture and the voice of the place
The intention driving my professional life is to explore and interweave my love for ecology, art and language into design and art that brings health and resilience to the nested ecologies of a given site, community or region. In so doing, I know that the result will be a reflection of authenticity true to the eco-region, the culture and the voice of the place.

I am inspired by ecological systems and the interdependency that human well-being shares with the health of those systems. My design passion lies in making connections that improve system function, enhance social benefit and establish habitat. As a designer, I believe that healing and nourishment of people and “Nature” are fully integrated. In my design practice, I integrate medicinal and edible plants into the landscape to encourage people to take a more active part in their surroundings and their well-being. Creating ecologies that are self-sustaining when exposed to excess fluxes of water, population, nutrients or toxins is critical as climate change and population growth pressure ecosystem function. By giving people a stake in the health of their ecological context it is my sincere hope that their relationship with their surroundings develops into a richer and more profound dynamic after my installation, and that the installation evolves with the community through time.
