Education Statement

Sharing projects and ideas about garden design, medicinal plants, art and ecology with people fulfills me. I love having time together with individuals as passionate as I am whether it is in a lecture or a workshop format. These interactions inspire me through new questions and feedback, and the way people’s curiosity and artistry manifests in such diverse ways.

The STEAM workshops I have developed for high schools and middle schools speak to the need I see to integrate science and art. In my practice, I see the connections between art and science every day. Both art and science, at heart, explore relationships across communities at the macro and micro scale. My classes help students develop a methodology for revealing ecological relationships through direct observation. Participants then find their voice in illustrating those relationships through art making, internalizing a process for understanding and externalizing their expression.  Both of these programs have received awards for excellence in environmental and energy education from the Massachusetts Secretary of Energy and the Environment.
