Bryant Spirals

Rivulet Spirals installation at the Trustees of Reservations Bryant Homestead Reservation is an ephemeral woven branch sculpture in the form of a woven spiral. The form is inspired by patterns of hydrology and the meter and content of W. C. Bryant’s poem, Life. The piece consists of found branches and plant material collected from on-site and crafted into the spiral that runs the length (150 feet) of a fallen tree along the Rivulet Trail. It is Todd’s hope that this project will capture the ephemeral sculpture’s essence and the power art and poetry have to reveal ecological processes to visitors of the reservation. These processes include hydrologic dynamics of the stream, the life-cycle of trees, the evolution of the installation site and the decay of the sculpture over time.
