Found Natural Materials
10’ Diameter Woven Branch Sculpture

This piece was completed for the Hitchcock Center’s Discovery Play Yard. The materials: aspen, witch hazel, white pine, black birch and oak with grapevine represent the tree species that form the building blocks of successional landscapes and apex forest. Using early successional species like aspen as the foundation with oak providing support, I wanted to illustrate the foundational elements of how forests in our bio-region establish. These materials were harvested from construction sites, and give new life to material that had been deemed “slash” or unusable in commercial applications.
