Solstice mists

At the solstice, after a great ski snow fell, the warm weather rolled in – creating a gorgeous misty atmosphere as the snow melted (and ruined the skiing…) While at any other time, I would have lamented the loss of snow, I was grateful for the warmth coming to generate the fog. Most of November and December here had been especially cold, and the transition between the seasons would have been less apparent. This is a momentous season, as the light changes and so many traditions celebrate this time of the year as a triumph of light over dark. The drama of the hot winds and billowing fog seemed appropriate for this transition and the magic associated with the time.
